This sword was presented to Central Military Commission of China as reverence to the People’s Army by Longquan Government. It’s now exhibited in the interview hall of Central Military Commission of China. The fittings are elaborately designed: axes on the pommel, dragons on the handguard and tiger in the midde of the saya. Inscribed bamboo-slips are on the top end of the scabbard, "the Art of War" is engraved on it. Water, mountains and the Great Wall are the patterns at the end o the scabbard.
About the Swordsmith
Master Shen Xinpei is the 4th generation of Shen family, he's in charge of Shen Guanglong Sword Workshop now. He was born in 1948, he started to make swords with his father when he was 13 years old. He succeeded sword making technique from his father, he devoted his attention to making swords.
He invented moldings and reformed sword making processes, cost was reduced and efficency was improved dramatically.
In the year of 1972, Richard Nixon, the 37th President of the United States, visted China, Premier Zhou Enlai presented a Longquan sword to President Nixon as national gift, the sword was made by Shen Xinpei.
In 2007, Longquan sword forging technique was approved to be the First Batch of Nation-Class Non-material Cultural Heritage in China and Shenguanglong as the heritage protection site. Shen Xinpei was entitled as the inheritor of the technique and received Lifetime Achievement Award of Art.
