This
katana is hand made by traditional technique of Japanese forging, Not
like industrial forging in modern times, which be done either with
presses or with hammers powered by compressed air, electricity,
hydraulics or steam, but retains historical method using hammer and
anvil. Two pieces outer jacket steel wrapped around a relatively softer,
inner core steel, which is resilient and able to absorb shocks, in a
way, reduces the possibility of the blade breaking or bending. This
creates a blade with hard, sharp cutting edge.
The
visible tenuous undulating grain on the blade was resulted from
folded repeatedly during forging. The blade shaped Shinogi-zukuri
without blood groove, featured Chu points and Ihori blade backs, which
has irregular wavy Boshi, and Gunome hamon resulted from quenching and
tempering. Futsu shape of full tang has Haagari tang tips. Also, a
swimming dragon patten and characters are carved on both sides of the
blade.
The Tsuka is made of hardwood, covered red
authentic shark samegawa then wrapped tightly with black
silk in Japanese style. Hardwood Saya lacquered in black with gloss finish.
Coffee silk Sageo also rolled both sides of Kurikata.
The Koshirae are truly amazing, lobster pattern are hand engraved on elegant Tsuba, Fuchi and
Kashira, which are made from oxidized copper. There are Brass Habaki and
two copper Seppa securing the blade and as spacer to rivet the hilt and
blade. And two subminiature golden Menuki are rested on each side of the
Tsuka.
In addition, this katana can be taken apart
fully anytime to maintenance. It also comes with a yellow silk bag with
vivid spike.
