Item Introduction

Ryan1230 is a wakizashi and another in Ryansword's catalog of swords where the blade is specially-folded during the forging process to produce a hada with a beautiful, random, feathery pattern. The fittings are all made of brass. The tsuba, fuchi and kashira have a flower and shishi (lion-dog) theme with gold and silver color. The seppa and habaki are chrome-plated brass. The tsuka has black, rayskin panels and wrapped with brown, synthetic silk in hinerinaki style. The saya is made of light-colored wood with visible grains and the koiguchi is made of polished, bufallo horn. The sageo is black, synthetic silk with brown color pattern.

Wakizashi are considered a samurai's side arm and supplemental weapon. It is effective weapon when fighting in confined spaces as typical Japanese dwellings had low ceiling. Samurai warriors often sleep with their wakizashi and carry them even when inside castles, residences unlike the katana that they sometimes had to leave to a servant. The use of the wakizashi though was not limited to the samurai as merchants, craftsmen and other individuals sometimes carry it for protection.
