Item Introduction

This jian is a beautiful reproduction of the sword in the Han dynasty (B.C 202-A.D 220). The blade is made of folded steel and octahedral, wire-brushed grains are visible. The handle is designed to be held by one hand and is made of hardwood wrapped in waxed cotton cord. The handle ends in a flat, handmade gilt iron pommel. The handguard and ornaments in the scabbard are also gilt iron, handmade. The motif on fittings are four gods in Chinese fairy tale. Four holy animals are mythological creatures in the Chinese constellations. They are the Azure Dragon(Qing Long) of the East, the Vermilion Bird(Zhu Que) of the South, the White Tiger(Bai Hu) of the West, and the Black Turtle(Xuan Wu) of the North. Each one of them represents a direction and a season. The scabbard is made of ebony, a type of black hardwood with a fine texture.
The sword is functional, it’s an artwork for collection.
