Naginata Japanese Sword Shihozume Clay Tempered Unokubi-Zukuri Blade Ryaskin Saya--Ryan872

Item Introduction

A naginata is a Japanese pole weapon whose blade has a lot of similarities with that of a katana in terms of forging process and shape. Naginata were used by the samurai, foot soldiers (ashigaru), warrior monks (s?hei) and female warriors from noble families (onna-bugeisha). Its long reach makes it an effective weapon against mounted enemy or cavalry and against opponents armed with a sword.

Ryan872 is a naginata with a laminated blade in unokubi zukuri geometry. The blade edge is made of 1095 high carbon steel, the sides made of folded steel and the core made of iron and 1060 steel. The blade is differentially-hardened with a beautiful notare or wave-pattern hamon. Due to size limitation when shipping packages, the handle of this naginata is shortened similar to the design of a katana's tsuka. It is fully-wrapped with rayskin and brown, synthetic silk ito. The saya is made of hardwood and partially wrapped with genuine rayskin, buffalo horn is used at the saya mouth. Tsuba, fuchi and kashira are made of copper with intricate and detailed designs. The fittings are changeable.
