    A naginata is a Japanese pole weapon whose blade has a lot of similarities with that of a katana in terms of forging process and shape. Naginata were used by the samurai, foot soldiers (ashigaru), warrior monks (s?hei) and female warriors from noble families (onna-bugeisha). Its long reach makes it an effective weapon against mounted enemy or cavalry and against opponents armed with a sword. This weapon is designed to keep an enemy at a bay.

    Compared to our other naginata versions whose handles were shortened due to shipping restrictions, Ryan1389 is made with a normal pole length. The shaft or pole is designed to be disassembled in two pieces to facilitate easier shipping. The blade is made of through-hardened 1095 high carbon steel with a round, black, iron guard and a black saya with matte finish. The pole is made of hardwood with matte, black paint.

Due to size limitation on shipping packages, the handle of this naginata is shortened similar to the design of a katana's tsuka. It is wrapped with rayskin and synthetic silk ito. The saya is made of hardwood and partially wrapped with genuine rayskin. Buffalo horn is used at koiguchi. Tsuba, fuchia and kashira are made of iron with flower and bufferfly design. The fittings are changeable.
